Scholarships

Each year the Ashby Foundation provides scholarships to keep more than 350 students in school and completing their educations. To date more the 1200 annual scholarships have been provided to deserving students on six of
the Cape Verde islands. |

Training
|
|
| |
The Ashby Foundation provides various types of training leading to employment. Currently more than 30 individual are being trained in an extensive apprenticeship program. This program has had an over 95% success rate in placing trained apprentices in long-term employment. In addition, over 100 people have received specialized computer training. |

Start-Up Businesses

The Ashby Foundation has helped identify over 200 potential new business owners. More than 75 have been selected for business management training. More than 50 have qualified for micro enterprise loans and started successful new companies. |

Community Service
|

| |
The students that
receive scholarships from the Ashby Foundation provide
community service hours as a way to "repay" these
scholarships. Over the past four years, students have
contributed more than 150,000
community service hours across six
different islands. Working in groups the students
have built homes, repaired schools, painted hospitals,
collected food for children, distributed school
supplies, participated in vaccination programs and much more." |

Individual Service

Many Ashby Foundation
students provide service hours to help individuals.
Thousands of hours have been contributed tutoring
younger students, reading to the blind, taking care of
children for working mothers, caring for the handicapped
and much more. |

Other
|
|
| |
The Ashby Foundation
provides logistical support for humanitarian aid from other organizations and
individuals in Cape Verde. More than 500 wheelchairs have been distributed for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We have also provided translation and
logistical support for doctor training at two hospitals, for dental work by volunteer dentists, for the establishment of an agricultural project based on drip irrigation and much more. |
