Scholarships |
|
| |
The Ashby Foundation
provides tuition assistance to high school and junior
high school age students. This assistance pays for
tuition, books and uniforms. Unlike a traditional
scholarship, students are obligated to "repay" this
assistance generally in the form of community service
hours. This method "self-selects" those students
that truly have financial needs because they are willing
to work for the assistance that is provided.
Furthermore this method teaches students the principle
of hard work and self-reliance. It has the added
benefit of leveraging the funds spent by providing much
needed help to the community. |

Training |
|
| |
Job related training
is provided to individuals seeking immediate employment.
This training is usually provided as apprenticeships in
skilled trade areas such as construction, plumbing,
wiring, etc. The Foundation pays a portion of the
apprentice's wages during a six month period as a way to
make it attractive for skilled tradesman to provide the
apprenticeship training. Again, apprentices are
expected to "repay" this assistance by providing their
own apprentice openings once they have established their
own business. |
